Professionally active members, managers and self-employed members pay SEK 280 per month. In order to be covered by Akavia's income insurance, you must also be a member of the Akademikernas a-kassa unemployment insurance fund, which costs SEK 130 per month.

If you are a student, membership is free throughout your entire study period. In the first year after graduation, you have a substantial discount and pay only SEK 59 per month.

Reduced membership fees are available if you are a lawyer with your own firm or a partner, a retired member, employed abroad or earn less than SEK 18,000 per month.

The amount of compensation you can receive from the Akavia income insurance depends on your earnings before you become unemployed. Akavia's income insurance compensates you for 80 per cent of your income up to a maximum level of SEK 100,000 per month before taxes for 120 working days, (equivalent to six months).

If you have been a member of another trade union with income insurance, it is essential that you avoid any gap between leaving your old union and joining Akavia, as that can affect your right to compensation in the event of unemployment.

To change to Akavia:

1. Find out the notice period that applies for leaving your current trade union. This is important in order to avoid paying double fees or having gaps in your membership that may affect qualifying periods for certain benefits.
2. Fill in Akavia's membership application and specify a starting date that ensures that there is no gap between memberships. Choose a starting date for membership of Akavia that is no later than the day after you leave your old trade union.
3. Once you receive your welcome email from Akavia, your membership has been approved and confirmed, applicable from your chosen starting date.
